Bicester Representatives Visit Czernichów for the Seven Seas Festival
In July 2026, the Mayor of Bicester, Councillor Paul Wheatley, and Twinning Committee Member Debbie Pickford travelled to our twin town of Czernichów, Poland, to strengthen the long-standing friendship between our communities and take part in their annual Seven Seas Festival.

The visit began with a warm welcome from our Polish hosts, including a reception dinner attended by local councillors and the Deputy Mayor. It was a wonderful opportunity to renew friendships and celebrate the close relationship that has developed between our two towns over many years.

On Saturday, the visitors enjoyed a tour of the renowned Żywiec Brewery, where they learned about the history of one of Poland’s most famous breweries before rounding off the visit with a tasting session.

Later that day, they joined local residents for the Seven Seas Festival, a lively rock music event that this year also marked its 90th anniversary. Paul gave a speech which met with a warm reception.
The celebrations continued late into the evening, creating lasting memories for everyone involved.

Sunday offered a more relaxed pace with a garden party hosted by Maciej and his family. Surrounded by friends, the gathering reflected the warmth and hospitality that have become hallmarks of the twinning relationship. Over the years, these friendships have grown into something much deeper, with many feeling more like extended family than international visitors.

On Monday, the group enjoyed a boat trip, with both visitors taking the opportunity to try their hand at steering the boat.

The visit also included a particularly special meeting with Adam Kos, the first Mayor of Czernichów to sign the Twinning Charter, along with his wife, Helena. Although Adam has been unwell, it was a touching reunion and a reminder of the enduring friendships that have flourished since the partnership between the two towns began. Debbie has known him for many years.

Following lunch, it was time to return to the airport for the journey home, bringing another memorable visit to a close.
The Mayor and Debbie would like to express their sincere thanks to everyone in Czernichów for their generous hospitality and warm welcome. Visits such as these continue to strengthen the bond between our twin towns and highlight the value of international friendship, cultural exchange and community spirit.
