Following the ceremony, the group returned to the mayor’s assembly room for a glass of wine, then spent the remainder of the afternoon relaxing with their host families. Some enjoyed visits to local attractions and concluded the evening with dinner in La Roche-sur-Yon.

Departure and Reflections

On Tuesday morning, the delegates began their journey home. Damien and Paul made a stop at the famous historical theme park Puy du Fou, which is hoping to build a similar historical attraction near Bicester. They spent four hours enjoying the shows before continuing the long drive home, returning to Bicester in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Reflecting on the visit, the delegates spoke highly of the unique experience of staying with local host families. This personal connection with the community, they said, offered insights and moments that regular tourism simply can’t match. Despite language differences, meaningful connections were formed, and memories made. The hosts’ warm hospitality, ranging from shared meals to time spent by the pool during the hot summer days, left a lasting impression.

There was also recognition of the strength of the Bicester twinning community. Delegates expressed admiration for the long-standing efforts of organisers like Val, Brian, and Debbie Pickford, whose legendary events have made the Bicester hosting experience a cherished part of the exchange for many years.

All involved agreed that it was a wonderful weekend filled with renewed friendships, new bonds, and a clear reminder that the spirit of international twinning remains alive and well.
